If you are looking for cheap, healthy and homemade food, in Wales, The Crafty Cafe is where you need to head to.

This small local business is owned and run by Gwyneth alone, who immediately welcomes you in. You have the choice to get comfy on the sofa, or enjoy your meal on spaciously layout tables, offering plenty of space to lay your gear down. Have a look at all the homemade crafts available too.

All the food is homemade and locally sourced. The standard panini’s and toasties are available, or you can try her more nourishing dishes such as chicken vegetable soup, chilli con carne and beef casserole- perfect options to fuel another couple of hundred miles around Snowdonia. The best part is that Gwenth has made an active effort to keep prices down, so much so, that most dishes are under £5!

Obviously, it would be impossible to leave without trying cake. It’s safe to say that over two visits, we tried 3 different homemade cakes and they were delightful. My personal recommendation would be the Jaffa Orange Cake. All in all, we consumed 2 hot chocolates, two mains, 2 cakes and one coffee for under £19 – bargain. This place was exactly what I was looking for!

My only comment would be that if you are in a rush and want quick food, this may not be the best stop off for lunch. As there is only one person behind the counter, with one helper, the food can take a little longer arrive than your standard tearoom. Having said that, it’s worth the wait. If you can’t spare the time, then definitely pop in for some home baked cake.
